Rooms of Silence exist in many different places: at hospitals, airports, universities, big companies, and even shopping malls.
Third year students on the Bachelor level at the Industrial Design Programme shows – with the shopping mall as starting point – five
different design ideas for future Rooms of Silence.
By redesigning an existing room in a shopping mall into a Room of Silence the students have worked with aesthetic effects in the material
environment that may support existential meaning-making, reflection and retreat. The aim of this assignment has been to enhance the
students’ ability to critically reflect upon different types of spaces, interiors, and furniture design.
